WALNUT, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College men's soccer team(2-3-3) came back to beat Mt. San Antonio College, 2-1, on Friday.
The Mounties jumped out to an early lead with a Moises Prado goal in the 18th minute.
15 minutes later, the Vaqueros answered with a Gustavo Loera score, assisted by Diego Gonzalez.
The assist marked the third consecutive match Gonzalez has factored into a score. He recorded a pair of goals at Norco and a goal and an assist against Pasadena.
The tie was broken in the 60th minute on a goal from Jesus Avila off a feed from Mark Salazar.
"I'm very proud of the guys today," said head coach Alex Zermeno. "They showed lots of resilience and stuck to our four pillars: family, faith, focus, and finish."
The Vaqueros recorded their first win against the Mounties since at least 2013.
"It's not easy going away to a top team like Mt. SAC and getting a positive result, and we did just that. It took 90 minutes of focus and determination, and a big shout out to the whole team," said Zermeno. "From starters to subs and those who don't make the travel roster but did a great job on the scout team to prepare the group traveling."
The Vaqs return to La Playa Stadium on Tuesday to host College of the Canyons at 1:30 p.m.
