Vaqueros Held to 49 Points, Suffer Back-to-Back Losses

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.– The Santa Barbara City College women's basketball team extended its struggles in scoring, falling 56-49 to Bakersfield College on Tuesday in a tightly contested matchup.

Khaya Jackson led the Vaqueros off the bench with 11 points in 17 minutes, providing scoring when SBCC needed it most. 

Kaylee Lawson added 10 points, while Milan Jackson contributed 8 points and 5 rebounds. 

SBCC stayed competitive early, using defensive intensity to force turnovers and limit Bakersfield's opportunities, keeping the game close despite trailing 28-26 at halftime. 

A scoring drought in the third quarter allowed the Renegades to pull ahead, as the Vaqueros struggled to convert shots despite collecting 29 rebounds, including 22 on the defensive end. 

"We've played excellent defense in both losses. Our goal is always to hold teams in the 50s, and we're doing that," Krul said. "Right now we're having trouble scoring, but that's fixable." 

Santa Barbara struggled to find its rhythm offensively, shooting just 31.7% from the field and 18.8% from three-point range, while converting eight of 17 free throws. 

Turnovers were costly, with 20 miscues leading directly to 19 points for Bakersfield. 

SBCC looks to bounce back in its next matchup, traveling to Copper Mountain on Friday, Nov. 21, with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
