LOS ANGELES -- Santa Barbara City College earned its first WSC win of the season by besting LA Pierce College 2-0 at Shepard Stadium on Friday.
Gustavo Loera opened the scoring for the Vaqs in the 25th minute thanks, in part, to an assist from Diego Gonzalez. Cristiano Alvarez added the second goal at the 45th minute, assisted by Elai Sidov, sealing the 2-0 victory.
Goalkeeping was strong on both sides. Arturo Alegria and Eric Cruz combined for 5 saves for Santa Barbara, while LA Pierce's Abraham Jimenez recorded 5 saves on 7 shots.
Alegria continues his strong season, leading the WSC in goals against and is second in the conference in save percentage.
Santa Barbara also controlled the game with 14 total shots, 9 corner kicks, and disciplined play without any fouls.
The Vaqueros improved to 5-3-4 on the season and 1-0-1 against conference opponents.
