SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Cole Ide's two-run homer in the first inning helped propel Santa Barbara City College, besting Allan Hancock 10-4 on Thursday as the Vaqueros close in on their third consecutive Western State Conference North championship.
Ide's blast - his third of the season and second against the Bulldogs - set the tone early for the Vaqueros.
Shortstop Will Matuszak added a hit, a run, an RBI and two stolen bases. Nick Putnam, Logen Seeger, and Sean Asperger each contributed two RBIs, with Seeger enjoying a three-hit day. Nicolas Aguirre picked up two hits and a stolen base.
Max Collins allowed two unearned runs over four innings of work, while Trevor Kester-Johnson picked up the win tossing a scoreless inning and one-third.
With the win, Santa Barbara improved their conference record to 17-6, while Cuesta finished their season with a 17-7 mark.
The Vaqueros wrap up the regular season today at LA Pierce, where they can claim the WSC North title outright. The Brahmas have won two of three games against SBCC this season, each game decided by a single run.
