Vaqueros take sixth in WSC Preview

Michaela Dahringer placed 20th and Kylie Walker took 26th on Friday, helping SBCC to a sixth-place finish in the WSC Preview women's cross country meet at Kenneth Hahn Park in Los Angeles.

Glendale topped the 10-team field with 24 points and Canyons was second with 40. The Vaqueros were sixth at 167. Jassmine Macon of Glendale was first out of 94 runners in 18:27.

Dahringer, a freshman from Sweden, clocked 20:29 in the 5K race and Walker ran 20:56. Cassandra Everett was 42nd in 21:46, one spot ahead of teammate Dean Roell in 21:48.

"Our goal for the WSC Championships is to place in the top four," said coach Scott Fickerson. "We knew we might not yet be there today and obviously we are not, but this shows we are very much capable of it in three weeks time. Michaela and Cassie both had really strong races. Kylie also showed a lot of improvement. For us, every week is key as we will just get stronger and stronger.

"The WSC is very strong on the women's side. I wouldn't be surprised to see the top six teams in the top 15 in the state."

The Vaqueros will host the SBCC Invitational at Shoreline Park and Leadbetter Beach on Friday, starting at 3 p.m.
