MERCED, Calif. – Avery Jensen scored a pair of overtime goals to help the Santa Barbara City College women's water polo team take third place in the state in a 14-13 win over Orange Coast on Saturday.
Katie Strohl and Jensen finished the game with 5 goals apiece, with Jensen adding 4 assists to cap her impressive offensive outburst.
May Guidoux added a goal and 5 steals while Pamela Hernandez and Ava Barclay each grabbed 4 steals.
Barclay finished with 9 saves on 22 shots.
The Vaqueros had hoped for a rematch of last year's championship match against Long Beach, but ran into trouble against Riverside on Friday.
Riverside scored twice in the extra frame to give them a 13-12 win over SBCC and a place in the finals.
Guidoux scored four times while Barclay recorded 13 more saves in the tournament.
Riverside ultimately couldn't solve Long Beach, which finished its championship season with a 40-2 record.
Santa Barbara finished the year with a 34-8 record, claiming their fifth consecutive top-three 3C2A finish.
