WALNUT, Calif. – The No. 2 Santa Barbara City College women's water polo team went undefeated at the Mountie Classic hosted by Mt. SAC, beating American River (17-8), San Diego Miramar (14-3), San Joaquin Delta (15-8), and Mt SAC (15-7).
"We have a great group of young women who work really hard in the water and support each other out of the water," said head coach Chuckie Roth. "It is fun to be surrounded by positivity and the desire to improve. This is going to be another very special group. I am lucky to coach these girls."
May Guidoux was an offensive force over the tournament, compiling 16 goals and four assists. Guidoux erupted for eight goals in the win over San Joaquin Delta.
"Freshman May Guidoux had a great weekend for our offensive charge," said Roth. "She continues to improve and is relentless in our current attack efforts."
Netminder Ava Barclay was busy, playing every game of the tournament and racking up big saves for the Vaqs.
"In the goal, freshman Ava Barclay improved as the weekend went on. She had several heads-up defensive plays along with a great passing effort and scoring one goal from the goal," said Roth.
Playing tough down low, Jada Ashen continued to make an impact for Santa Barbara.
"Sophomore Jada Ashen was great at two-meter offense and defense," said Roth. "She is becoming a great leader in and out of the water."
The Vaqueros improved to 16-1 on the season with the four victories. They play again in a tournament hosted by Ventura College on Friday, Oct. 10.
