Vaqs Sweep Pierce
GOLETA, Calif. -- No. 7 Santa Barbara City College women's volleyball swept LA Pierce College on Friday (25-8, 25-14, 25-12) as the Vaqueros celebrated Sophomore Night at Robertson Gymnasium.
Sophomores Stephanie Groswirt, Kaylin Cooney and Valeria Bellodas all led in key statistical categories en route to the victory.
Groswirt paced the Vaqs with 26 assists. Cooney, with Hazel Irving, collected 7 kills, and Bellodas recorded 10 digs and 4 service aces.
"It was a great night celebrating our sophomores and playing a really clean game of volleyball while getting the entire roster involved," said head coach Kat Niksto. "Several players went on long serving runs with Valeria leading the way with 4 aces. Freshman middle block Hazel had an efficient night attacking, going 7 for 7 to hit 1.000%."
Bayley Padia added 6 kills, Chaya Clemons had 4 kills and Devin Levy recorded 7 digs to round out the efforts of the sophomores.
"A big thank you to all of our sophomores," said Niksto. "They have impacted our program in so many positive ways: Stephanie, Bayley, Chaya, Kaylin, Devin and Valeria."
SBCC wraps up conference play on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Allan Hancock.
