September 20, 2025
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Morgan Guardado put up 19 assists, 12 digs and five aces as Santa Barbara City College women's volleyball improved to 10-0 in three sets (26-24, 25-11, 25-18) over Bakersfield College on Friday.
Things got off to a chaotic start for the Vaqueros with a transportation issue.
"After the stress of our bus not showing up on time, and getting off to a sluggish start to the match," said head coach Kat Niksto. "We pulled off a big comeback in set one to win 27-25, which really fueled our momentum for the rest of the match."
The Renegades got out to an early lead in the first set.
"Down 2-9, and 6-13, our team never gave up and crawled our way back into the match, getting closer at 17-20," said Niksto. "Down 22-24, we sided out with a kill by Stephanie Groswirt, and tied the game on an ace by Devin Levy. They sided out to go back up 25-24, but we sided out on a spiking error by them to tie it again, 25 all. Then Sarah Guzman went back and served two aces to win the set."
The Vaqueros used the momentum from their early rally to take the next two sets with a comfortable margin.
Bayley Padia continued to rack up stats with 11 kills, three digs and two aces, while Groswirt finished with seven kills and nine assists.
Valeria Bellodas continued her stellar defensive play with 15 digs.
The Vaqs return to Robertson Gymnasium on UCSB on Wednesday to host Santa Monica at 6 p.m.
