Bio

Phillip joined SBCC as an assistant coach in 2021. Originally hired as the sprints and hurdles coach, his responsibility expanded to include jumps coach for the 2024-25 season. Bailey enjoys using his wide base of track and field knowledge to help coach our athletes when needed. He was honored as Western State Conference Men's Assistant Coach of the year in 2024 and WSC Women’s Assistant Coach of the year in 2025.

As a four-time league champion sprinter, Bailey graduated from Yucaipa High School in 2012. He was introduced to the decathlon in junior college at Riverside City College, placing third decathlon at the State Championship in 2013 and 2014. He then attended Chico State University on a full scholarship. In 2015, Bailey competed in seven events at CCAA Championships, earning the "Highest Points Scored" award and placing fourth at the NCAA Div. II  Championship in the decathlon. In 2017, he was named the NCAA Div. II  Western Region Field Athlete of the Year, holding the top mark for the decathlon and sixth best in the long jump.

After graduating from CSU, Chico with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology, Bailey joined the Santa Barbara Track Club as a Professional Decathlete for two years before transitioning from athlete to coach here at SBCC.
