TORRANCE, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College Track & Field team competed at the Dave Shannon Invite on Saturday, hosted by El Camino College. The Vaqueros earned five podium finishes in individual events, plus two more in relays.
As one can expect, Kiala Haas won the 800 Meters (2:17.52) and 1500 Meters (4:47.87, a personal best), but the latter went down to the wire. Only two-tenths of a second separated the Vaquero and West LA's Angeles Feliciano.
Kaylee Lawson also earned a podium place. Her 10.60-meter mark was good for third in the Triple Jump.
A relay team on both the women's and men's side had a podium finish. Audrey Kobayashi, Syriah Jones, Lawson, and Serenity Jones combined in the 4x100 Women's Relay for third place (49.96), less than three-tenths off of second. For the men, the 4x400 Relay team of Sebastain Wanjiru, Beck O'Hara, Colin Lorentz, and Ryder Mittleider also placed third (3:29.31).
Beau Lantz clocked in at 11 seconds even to take home second in the 100 Meters. Ozzy Rogers' 11.14 was good for fourth. Later, Lantz also finished second in the 200 Meters (21.99), .17 off of first.
The Vaqueros compete again beginning Tuesday at the SoCal Heptathlon/Decathlon Championships.
