SBCC’s Maya Nelson took fifth in the WSC javelin final on Friday at College of the Canyons and earned a trip to the Southern Cal Prelims.

Maya Nelson won the hammer with the third-best toss in school history of 39.39 meters (129 feet, 2 3/4 inches). She ws also third in the discus, fourth in the shot put and fifth in the javelin.

Hannah Arnold and Nicole Stevens captured the 100 and 400 meters on Friday in the 78th annual Easter Relays, hosted by SBCC at La Playa Stadium.

Yuliana Garibay took fifth in the 800 and ninth in the 1500 in season-best times, competing against four-year schools at the Westmont Collegiate Classic.

Maya Nelson recorded season bests in the hammer, shot put and discus on Friday, leading the SBCC women’s track and field team in the WSC North Meet at Memorial Stadium in Bakersfield.
