SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 3 seed Santa Barbara City College Women's Tennis team (16-2, 11-2) won their 3C2A SoCal Regional Quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, cruising to a 5-0 home win over No. 6 seed San Diego City.
Coming off a long weekend at the Western State Conference (WSC) Tournament that ran Tuesday through Saturday, the Vaqueros needed to find some extra energy early this week to extend their season. Hosting San Diego City, it was a rematch of the Feb. 6 Santa Barbara 5-4 road win from very early in the season.
Only winning one doubles point in that match, the Vaqueros got off to a hot start in this playoff match by winning all three doubles points.
The No. 3 pair of Donatella Biscayart and Nicole O'Malley earned the match's first point with a dominant 8-0 win. McCarley Trigg and Luccia Noel-Jungclaussen followed that with an 8-5 victory on court two.
Already up 2-0, the Vaqueros No. 1 team of Alice Guillaumond and Iris Besmer had the opportunity to make the situation even sweeter. They won a 7-4 tiebreaker for a 9-8 victory, clinching a doubles sweep for the hosts.
Now, just needing two out of six singles wins, the Vaqueros wasted no time. Back in the Feb. 6 win, Guillaumond won 6-0, 6-1 on court three. This time, she took an equally dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory. No. 2 Noel-Jungclaussen wrapped things up with a 6-2, 5-0 victory by retirement to advance Santa Barbara to the SoCal Semifinals.
After a full week off, the Vaqueros travel to No. 2 seed Orange Coast on Tuesday. The winner will move on to the SoCal Regional Championship against a WSC opponent—either No. 1 LA Mission or No. 4 Canyons.
