Link Named WSC Athlete of the Month
By Jimmy Friery
Trinity Link was named the Western State Conference (WSC) Women's Swimming Athlete of the Month for April, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
This is the second time Link won the award this year, also taking home February's honors. Her teammate, May Guidoux, won it in March, meaning that a Vaquero won the award every month it was offered.
It surely helped Link's case that she was named Swimmer of the Meet at the WSC Championships concluding on April 18. She won all seven of the events she competed in—four relays and three individual. She broke the school record in the 100 IM, timed at 58.33, and took home the 200 IM and 100 Fly, too. The most notable line of the four winning relays she was involved in was her 25.32 Fly split in the 200 Medley Relay team that logged a school-record 1:48.52. Link's points helped the Vaqueros continue their streak of consecutive WSC championships dating back to 2015.
Later, Link crowned herself a State champion in the 100 Fly (57.23, a personal best) and in the 100 IM (57.56), shattering the school record she had just set at the WSC Championships. Also, she was once again on the winning 200 Medley Relay team, breaking their previous school-record time by over a second (1:47.44). The Vaqueros finished second at the 3C2A State Championships.
Earlier in the month, she had three first-pitch finishes at the Orange Coast Invitational: again in the 100 Fly and 100 IM, and also the 400 Medley Relay. The Vaqueros won that meet with a team total of 607.5 points, more than 125 better than second-place Orange Coast.
