VENTURA, Calif. – The No. 13 Santa Barbara City College women's soccer team earned a solid result on Friday, coming away with a hard-earned 1–1 tie at Ventura.
"Yesterday's game was a tough one," said head coach Alex Zermeno. "It's always tough to go to Ventura and get a result, and we did just that. Obviously, a win would've been a better result, but we'll take a tie away. We're prepping for postseason play here. Right now, we are ranked number seven in SoCal with one more game against a competitive Pierce team."
This was SBCC's first game since they clinched the Western State Conference North title with their win over Oxnard. Zermeno said the team is very proud of the accomplishment and knows how important it is for the program.
"After our Oxnard game, we clinched the Western State North Conference regular season championship, and we are very proud of that and look to continue into our postseason play."
Despite the scoreline, the Vaqueros produced several standout performances. "We had stellar performance from the whole team," Zermeno noted, "but really big games from Olivia De Castillo, London Cespedes, and Zoe Minnery, as well as a good performance from our starting keeper, Natalie Gonzalez, who held another shutout."
The Vaqueros will face LA Pierce on Nov. 11 and then finish their regular season on Nov. 19, with the opponent still to be determined, as they prepare for postseason play.
