SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College Women's Soccer team clinched their second consecutive WSC North title on Tuesday following a massive 7-0 home win over Oxnard.
Adding to the celebrations, winger Zoe Minnery was announced as the WSC Athlete of the Month for October later in the week.
A conference juggernaut, it is the program's sixth championship in the past eight completed seasons. For head coach Alex Zermeno—who also leads the Men's team—it is the second in his first three seasons.
The Oxnard win was a true team performance, showing the Vaqueros' depth strength. Seven different goalscorers scored once each, and five different assisters combined for the team's six on the night. No player scored and assisted a goal, so 12 different Vaqueros earned a goal contribution in the clinching win.
Minnery was surprisingly not on the scoresheet on Tuesday, but her October run gives her some slack. The San Luis Obispo product scored in all seven of her October matches played, including hat tricks against Hancock and Cuesta. Her contributions helped the Vaqueros to an unbeaten month, winning seven of their eight games—at the time of publication, Santa Barbara is on a 12-match unbeaten streak.
As they prepare for the state tournament, the No. 13 Vaqueros drew 1-1 at Ventura on Friday night. The back-to-back champs have one last tune-up next Tuesday at Pierce before the postseason begins.
