WALNUT, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College women's soccer team (5-3-0) held off a late rally by Mount San Antonio College on Friday to claim the 2-1 win.
"You had to be there to see how great a game of soccer it was," said head coach Alex Zermeno.
Scoreless through the first 70 minutes, Zoe Minnery found the back of the net off a feed from London Cespedes.
"A huge shoutout to London, who played a great game," said Zermeno.
The Mounties responded late with a goal from Yuliana Jimenez in the 84th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
With time winding down, Izel Servin switched into high gear to chase down a ball and score to give the Vaqs the win and deliver Mt. SAC their first loss of the season.
"Our group stayed resilient and determined to find a way to finish the game," said Zermeno. "We had a little luck with our game winner with how the play developed, but it was very well executed… Izel Servin had to run about 60 yards on a sprint to get the back of that ball."
The Vaqueros won their third consecutive match and will look to keep the win streak alive on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against College of the Canyons at La Playa Stadium.
