No. 9 Vaqueros tie Chaffey in battle of unbeatens

Emily Erwin gave SBCC a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute on Tuesday afternoon but Chaffey struck back with a late tally to tie the Vaqueros 1-1 in a nonconference women's soccer match at La Playa Stadium.
Both teams are 4-0-1 and both are nationally ranked with the Vaqueros No. 9 in the National Soccer Coaches poll and the Panthers No. 18. SBCC is 16-0-5 in its last 21 games and 12-0-2 in its last 14 at home.

"Baylee got the ball and shot it and I was just following it up," said Erwin, a sophomore defender, after scoring her first goal of the year. "We were tight throughout the game, then we fell asleep near the end and it cost us a goal."
Rebecca Adams fired a shot off the crossbar in the 86th minute for the Panthers and Clarissa Guerrero took the rebound and chipped a shot into the left side.
SBCC's Marissa Stone had a breakaway early in the second half but her shot rolled wide left.
"I didn't think we played our best," said coach John Sisterson. "I don't know if it was the wind or the opponent or what. It was a scrappy game. We missed Maria Solis in the middle."
Solis missed the game with an injury and midfielder McKenna Taylor went down with an injury in the ninth minute and never returned.
Chaffey outshot the Vaqueros 16-9, including 8-4 in shots on goal. Vaquero keeper Alex Camarillo made a season-high seven saves.
The Vaqueros will play Game 3 of a five-game homestand on Friday when they host Canyons at 2 p.m.
