Women's Golf Takes Fourth at WSC #4
PALMDALE, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College women's golf team placed fourth at the Western State Conference's fourth round at Rancho Vista Golf Course on Monday.
"We're progressing," head coach Devin Engebretsen said. "We're trying to get all four of the golfers come together on the same day—like we did in WSC #1, where all four scored pretty well, allowing us to finish second."
Aidie Smith tied her career-best score of 76 after finishing with the same number of strokes in the previous week's contest. That mark was tied for second among all 37 golfers on the day, leading the Vaqueros to an overall score of 354—the team's best of the season.
Camryn Chapman shot an 89 with Azul Calzadillas right behind at 90. Daphne Shiebler also entered the lineup, shooting 99 in her first competitive action. Ultimately, the Vaqueros finished 12 strokes off of Canyons, who shot a first-place 342, and four off third-place Bakersfield (350).
"They have to continue to practice and believe and trust the process," Engebretsen said. "We feel good about where we're at, just have to continue to work and hopefully lower these numbers."
Santa Barbara competes again on Monday at San Dimas Golf Course, hosted by Citrus College.
