LANCASTER, Calif.– With the clock winding down, Kylee McDougal made a free throw to tie the game before Amarisse Camargo got a layup to secure a Santa Barbara City College women's basketball win, 64-62 over Antelope Valley on Wednesday.
Milan Jackson led the Vaqueros with 20 points in 28 minutes, helping the team stay competitive.
Siena Hoban added 11 points and two rebounds, while McDougal contributed nine points and two assists, providing scoring when SBCC needed it most.
SBCC set the tone early with composed, disciplined play, using active hands and defensive pressure to limit Antelope Valley's rhythm while building a 28–23 halftime lead.
The Vaqueros briefly lost momentum in the third quarter as the Marauders pulled ahead, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities despite Santa Barbara's strong defensive rebounding.
The Vaqueros stayed poised, winning the fourth quarter 23–20 and closing out the game with late execution, including key contributions from Camargo and Hoban to secure the 64–62 victory.
"Our schedule prepares us for games like this," Krul said. "All four of our losses were close, down two, down four, double overtime. When you're in those games, the wins eventually come if you stay composed, and we stayed composed today."
Santa Barbara found rhythm on offense, shooting 42.6% from the field and 26.7% from beyond the arc while converting 8 of 12 free throws.
Both teams finished with 14 turnovers, but AVC outscored SBCC 17–16 on those miscues.
The Vaqueros were outrebounded 38–31 yet held Antelope Valley to just 39.1% shooting and 19.4% from three. SBCC matched AVC with 32 points in the paint, and received 15 points from the bench.
SBCC looks to keep the momentum going when they take on Mira Costa at the College of the Canyons tournament on Friday in Santa Clarita.
