SBCC Battles Hard, Comes Up Short Against Hartnell
SAN MATEO, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College women's basketball team endured its first loss of the season, a 66-59 defeat to Hartnell on Friday.
"We have to get back to our defensive intensity. That's what creates our offensive freedom. We need more steals, more 50–50 balls, more diving on the floor," said head coach Sandrine Krul. "The biggest lesson is simple, we competed 100 percent. We're not upset about our effort, we just need to hit shots."
The Vaqueros held a 31-26 point lead at the half, but Hartnell responded with a 25-point third quarter to spark their comeback.
Aariah Fox led the Vaqueros with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and five steals.
Kaylee Lawson added 9 points and 4 rebounds, while Siena Hoban contributed 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Khaya Jackson came off the bench to score 10 points, providing a spark when the team needed it.
Milan Jackson chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds, helping SBCC stay competitive throughout the contest.
SBCC started strong, using its defensive intensity to force turnovers and secure rebounds, giving them early offensive opportunities.
A scoring drought in the third quarter allowed Hartnell to take the lead, as the Vaqueros struggled to convert shots despite controlling the glass 50-32 in the game.
Late in the fourth, SBCC fought to close the gap, but turnovers and missed shots prevented them from completing the comeback.
