Vaqueros Show Improvement Against Riverside
March 12, 2026
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara City College Men's Tennis hosted Riverside on Thursday for a non-conference match and were defeated 8-1.
The Vaqueros had a great start in doubles; the energy was high and the quality was solid. As the Vaqueros continue to show smarter shot-making decisions, their doubles matches are improving. SBCC is managing the pace much better in the doubles round and hanging strong together against high-level opposition.
Overall, the singles show improvement, too. At the No. 2 position, captain Ludwig Chan competed extremely well and took his opponent, Sreeram, to two long sets, falling just short at 4-6, 4-6. At the No. 4 position, Nick Bosch-Garza recovered well after losing the first set to rebound and find ways to disrupt his opponent. Bosch-Garza showed he is a fiery competitor and ended up defeating Almeida -6, 4-2, retired.
Sophomore No. 1 Loris Alem dropped his singles set 3-6, 2-6 to Plataniotis. Alem recounts, "The Riverside team was pretty tough and my opponent was more experienced than me. Though it was not the best match of the season for me, I did put together some good rallies and fought hard using the weapons I have."
At the time of publication, the Vaqueros next line up for a home rematch against Ventura on Tuesday. They travel to Bakersfield on Thursday before returning home against Orange Coast, completing a three-match week.
