Men's Tennis Beats Mt. San Antonio 8-1
WALNUT, Calif. - The Santa Barbara City College Men's Tennis team (1-1) traveled to Mt. San Antonio (Mt. SAC) for a non-conference dual on Tuesday, earning a resounding 8-1 win.
Captain Ludwig Chan and Loris Alem fought back from being down on several of their own service games to hold serve. As they settled in on return games and began getting a feel for their opponents serves, they put more pressure on their opponents' serve which resulted in two breaks. Santa Barbara's No. 1 team defeated Mt. SAC 8-5.
"The start in doubles was pivotal because of the collective focus and energy that the boys brought," head coach Danny Echt said. "They showed courage by making sound decisions and going after higher percentage shots. The team chemistry and shot patterns are improving as a whole; that showed in the footwork and activation overall as all three doubles teams played at a high level to earn their points."
In singles, it was a continuation of the focus and getting into a solid rhythm early in the first sets. At line three, Nick Bosch-Garza put all kinds of pressure on his opponent by holding his position close to the baseline and taking the ball early. He got off to a perfect start and kept his foot on the gas to defeat his opponent 6-0, 6-1.
"Nick's positive energy is contagious and his passion for the game is great to be around," Echt said proudly.
Bosch-Garza summed up the performance: "The team has been working extremely hard in practice and giving everything we have. We've grown a lot, not just as individual players but as a team. Today we showed great focus while still bringing energy and staying respectful, which I'm really proud of. I believe respect is more important than anything else in the game."
