PRESEASON PREVIEW: SBCC Men’s Soccer Gears Up for 2025 Season
Santa Barbara, CA — The SBCC Vaqueros men's soccer team is back on the training field, eager to build on their 2024 Western State Conference championship and continue their legacy of excellence. With a blend of experienced returners and promising newcomers, the program under Head Coach Alexander Zermeno is positioned for another competitive season in the CCCAA.
The 2025 squad is fortunate to return several all-conference standouts who provide leadership and skill across the field, including MarioDavid Vega, Gustavo Loera Cardenas, Payton Rodgers, and Xavier Salisbury—the conference's Defensive Player of the Year. Their presence sets a high standard for the entire roster.
New Talent Joins the Vaqueros
The team welcomes key transfers that bolster the squad's depth and versatility:
- From Moorpark College, Marcos Hernandez, an all-conference performer, adds grit and experience.
- From Dominican University, newcomers Cameron Harris and Gabe Valdes bring fresh energy and talent to the squad.

Coaching and Support Staff
Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Jaime Alvarado, promoted after his first season, continues to play a vital role in player development and recruiting. Assistant Coach and Film Analyst Saul Plasencia provides tactical insights and opponent scouting, helping the Vaqueros prepare for every challenge.
Looking Ahead
The Vaqueros open their season with a highly anticipated home scrimmage against Westmont College on August 22 at La Playa Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Fans can expect a fast-paced, hard-fought match as the team tests its chemistry and new tactics ahead of conference play.
