Gredvig, Taylor Both Great for Second-Place Vaqueros at WSC #7
By Jimmy Friery
SAN DIMAS, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College Men's Golf team placed second for the fifth time in Western State Conference (WSC) play on Monday at WSC #7 hosted by Citrus College. The Vaqueros' 296 team score was only three off Canyons' 293, tied for the closest margin between the teams of the season.
Battling cold and sometimes rainy conditions, Mason Gredvig was phenomenal, leading the Vaqueros with a 71. That score was tied for the best of all 48 golfers on the day with Canyons' Ed Beehag. Wyatt Taylor was one stroke behind, naturally shooting a 72.
Max Cali's 75 would have been top-two on any other team except Ventura—ironically, the fifth-place Pirates had two golfers finish at 74. Aidan Watts' 78 rounded out the Vaqueros' scoring on the day.
Santa Barbara previously finished just three strokes behind Canyons—who has won every WSC round—at WSC #4, which the Vaqueros hosted at Alisal Ranch Golf Course in Solvang.
The Vaqueros head to Ojai next Monday for WSC #8 hosted by Canyons at Soule Park Golf Course.
