Vaqueros Place Second Again at WSC #3
By Jimmy Friery
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College Men's Golf team placed second for the second week in a row at Western State Conference (WSC) #3 on Monday, continuing to stay hot as conference play gets going. Hugo de Mollerat du Jeu and Aidan Watts both shot a 74, tied for fifth-best of all 48 golfers on the day.
Canyons, as usual, won the event, finishing seven strokes ahead of the Vaqueros' 299. Santa Barbara was five better than Ventura (304) and 11 better than Glendale (310).
De Mollerat du Jeu and Watts had the best scores on the team, but they merely led the entire group of Vaqueros who performed solidly. The pair were one shot ahead of Brayden Mlodzik (75), who was one shot ahead of both Reynaldo Rodriguez and Wyatt Taylor (76). Thus, the top five Vaqueros all finished between 74 (+2) and 76 (+4).
After placing fifth at WSC #1, Santa Barbara has had back-to-back second-place finishes in the next two conference events. They host WSC #4 next Monday at Alisal Ranch Golf Course in Solvang.
