Vaqueros Improve, Finish Second at WSC #2
By Jimmy Friery
ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College Men's Golf team finished second at Western State Conference (WSC) #3 on Monday, their best result of the young season. Hugo de Mollerat du Jeu's 72 was the second-best among all 48 golfers on the day, pacing the Vaqueros to a 304 team total, only behind Canyons' 296.
All four of Santa Barbara's golfers to make the scoresheet finished under 80. Max Cali's 76 was the sixth-best among all competitors. Reynaldo Rodriguez was right behind at 77, and Wyatt Taylor similarly shot a 79 to get to the team's 304.
Even Aidan Watts' 81 and Brayden Mlodzik's 82—although not on Santa Barbara's scoresheet—would have been good enough for a top-three finish on four of the seven other teams' scoresheets.
Overall, it was a promising outing for the Vaqueros after finishing tied for fifth at WSC #1. Perhaps most notably, they ended the day six strokes better than third-place Ventura a whopping 17 better than fourth-place Glendale.
Santa Barbara competes next Monday at WSC #4 hosted at Bakersfield's Rio Bravo Country Club.
