LOMPOC, Calif. - The Santa Barbara City College Men's Golf team finished fourth at the two-day Point Conception Open at La Purisima Golf Course among a field of 16 teams. A tough course, the Vaqueros did well in their first outing of the year, a non-conference Sunday-Monday set-up before Western State Conference (WSC) play begins on February 9.
"I was proud of how hard our guys battled," co-head coach Craig Moropoulos said. "First day was a very strong 308 and the second day, 326 with some gutsy performances."
Freshman Reynaldo Rodriguez led the Vaqueros both days (74 and 77) for a 151 two-day total.
Connecticut native Wyatt Taylor shot a 76 on Sunday, while Max Cali's 82 was second-best on Monday. Overall, Vaqueros two through six were all within one stroke of the next guy, with Mason Gredvig's 162 total good for second. Team-wise, Desert's even 600 placed first, with Canyons (614) in second.
As alluded to, the Vaqueros next task is WSC #1 at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale two Mondays from now.
SBCC scores:
3. Hugo de Mollerat du Jeu, 163
4. Wyatt Taylor, 164
5. Braydon Mlodzik, 165
6. Max Cali, 166
