Manny Manzone fired a 1-over 73 on an extremely windy Monday to claim medalist honors in the fifth WSC men's golf tournament at Antelope Valley Country Club.
"The winds were really strong, probably 25-30 mph with gusts to 45," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez, who's in his 16th season. "This might have been the windiest day I've ever seen in my tenure at SBCC."
Manzone earned his fourth medalist honor, beating Ben Campbell of Canyons by four shots. Manzone has shot 68, 69, 74 and 73 in his last four rounds for a 71.0 average.
Tyler Murata and Michael Nam posted the second-best scores for SBCC at 84.
Canyons won the eight-school tourney with 394 strokes. Ventura and Antelope Valley tied for second at 413 with the Pirates winning the sixth-man playoff. SBCC was fourth at 415.
"The greens were dry and wouldn't hold the approach shots," noted Melendez. "Manny played a great round in tough conditions. I was happy to see Tyler and Michael come through with good scores."
The Cougars, ranked No. 2 in the state, lead the WSC with a 33-2 record. The Vaqueros and Pirates are tied for second at 28-7.
Citrus will host WSC No. 6 on Monday at San Dimas Canyon.
