SBCC Wins Nailbiter vs. Victor Valley
GOLETA, Calif. – Ramon Cota lofted an inbounds pass from the backcourt over everyone's head, but it was Jack Berry's effort to grab the ball that led to the foul that let Berry's free throw cement Santa Barbara City College's 64-63 win over Victor Valley on Tuesday at Robertson Gym.
With the clock set to expire, it was Berry who played the inbound heave like a cornerback and sealed the win with a steal.
It was a close game, wire-to-wire, as both teams were tied, 34-34, at halftime.
Throughout the box score, the statistics reiterated how close it was. Victor Valley had 39 rebounds to SBCC's 38. The Vaqueros edged the Rams on the offensive glass, 15-14, and on steals at 9-8 and both squads shot 42.9 percent from the field.
A true example of a team win, 14 players entered the contest for Santa Barbara, and each of them made an impact on the game.
Berry led the offense with 15 points while Finn Whips finished just shy of a double-double with 10 rebounds and 9 points.
Mason Thomas paced the scoring off the bench with 10 points, while Saul Anaya led the team with 3 assists.
SBCC has won four straight games to improve its record to 5-2. They will travel to the Monterey Bay Classic this weekend and start the tourney by playing Monterey Peninsula on Friday.
