SBCC Falls to LA City College in Overtime Thriller, 87-84

In a heartbreaking finish, the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros (SBCC) lost to Los Angeles City College (LACC) 87-84 after a thrilling overtime battle. The Vaqueros, who were in control for most of the game, held a commanding 60-38 lead at one point, but LACC mounted a dramatic comeback. With the score tied 79-79 at the end of regulation, the game went into overtime, where SBCC ultimately fell short.

Standout Performances and Stats

SBCC's Julian Hicks was a standout performer, scoring 22 points and hitting 7 three-pointers, which played a key role in keeping the Vaqueros ahead for much of the game. As a team, SBCC drained 12 three-pointers, showing impressive perimeter shooting. Five SBCC players finished in double figures, including Ajani "AJ" Reid who chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds, contributing to a well-rounded tram offensive effort. However, despite their offensive success, the Vaqueros were plagued by issues in the final moments.

While SBCC's defense had been solid throughout the season, it struggled in critical moments against LACC, particularly with penetration and rebounding. This allowed the visitors to get second-chance opportunities that ultimately proved costly.

Missed Free Throws and LACC's Comeback

With a 76-70 lead and just 25 seconds remaining in the game, SBCC had a chance to seal the victory at the free throw line. However, the Vaqueros went just 3-6 from the charity stripe in those crucial moments, leaving the door open for LACC to capitalize. AJ Robinson led the charge for LACC, finishing with 20 points, including a remarkable 10-13 performance from the free-throw line, which helped the visitors stay in the game and force overtime.

In the extra period, LACC outplayed SBCC, ultimately securing the 87-84 victory. The Vaqueros will look to bounce back next week when they have 3 games: at Bakersifeld, home to Cerro Coso, and home to Santa Monica.
