TORRANCE, Calif. – It wasn't the opening game the Santa Barbara City College football team hoped for, as they lost 68-6 against El Camino at Murdock Stadium on Saturday.
It took the Warriors just 1:20 to reach the endzone on their first drive. They would continue to score on every offensive possession throughout the game.
It's the first time SBCC has surrendered 60 points since 2019, in a 63-10 loss to College of the Canyons.
"A lot of young Vaqueros playing their first college game against a very good team, on the road," said head coach Craig Moropoulos. "Even with the score the way it was, we had guys working hard and competing. That is what we are going to build off of."
Quinn Donnell showcased his ability, hauling in 7-of-8 passes intended for him for 75 yards. Luke McNeill grabbed another three catches, including the lone touchdown for the Vaqueros on a pass from Jackson McPeak.
Bailey Wurzer demonstrated his ability as a return man, racking up 50 yards on three kickoff returns.
Linebacker Nelson Smith paced the defense with 12 total tackles and three tackles for loss. Sebastian Wanjiru secured eight solo tackles, nine total, and a pass breakup in his defensive effort.
The Vaqueros host Pasadena City College for their home opener at La Playa Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m.
