10 Vaqueros make All-APC squad

SBCC landed 10 players on the All-American Pacific Conference football team, including five first-team picks.

Sophomore receiver Jacob Arnell and sophomore kicker Marcus Hoerberg were first-team selections on offense. Arnell caught a team-high 47 passes for 729 yards (15.5 average) and his nine TDs were No. 1 in the conference and No. 4 in Southern Cal.

Hoerberg made 8-of-12 field goals, including three of 43 yards or more in an 18-16 win at Antelope Valley. One of those FGs was a 47-yarder – the longest in the APC this year.

Second-team offensive picks were tackle George Rowan and running back Mike Petersen of Denmark.

Sophomore linebacker Morgan Nevin was a first-team defensive choice, along with freshman free safety Zack Arnell and sophomore punter Tim Gleeson.

Nevin was No. 1 in the state with 139 tackles. His average of 15.4 per game was nearly five more than the No. 2 tackler. Arnell averaged 7.4 tackles. Gleeson was the No. 1 punter in Southern Cal and No. 2 in the state with a 40.3 average. He was also tops in So Cal with 21 punts inside the 20-yard line.

Second-team defensive picks included freshman end Dillon Sheedy (72 tackles, No. 3 in APC), freshman tackle Travis Butts and sophomore cornerback Tavonte Jackson (46 tackles, 3 interceptions).

SBCC got off to its best start in 38 years when it opened with six straight wins. The Vaqueros, who tied for third in the APC, finished 7-3 for their best record since 1991.
