Larson is SBCC’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Kit Larson has been chosen as SBCC’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2014-15. The Vaqueros’ All-American relief pitcher received his award on Monday during the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Café.

Kit Larson has been chosen as SBCC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2014-15. The Vaqueros' All-American relief pitcher received his award on Monday during the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry's Plaza Café.

Larson is a 6-4 right-hander from Mill Valley, Calif. He was named first-team All-WSC North, All-Southern Cal and All-American last year after helping SBCC to a fifth-place State finish, its highest ever. He was 4-2 with six saves and broke a 35-year-old school record with his 0.94 earned-run average.

Larson earned a spot on the 2014 Academic All-State baseball team and he currently has a 3.7 GPA. He received a scholarship to play baseball at North Carolina State.

He said he's interested in Documentary Film studies and plans to major in Communications at NC State with a focus in New Media.

"I chose NC State because it was something different," said Larson. "The baseball culture feels to be a lot stronger in Raleigh and I wanted to put myself in that environment."

Larson has a 2.35 ERA this season for the Vaqueros with one save in 7.2 innings. SBCC is ranked No. 4 in Southern Cal with an 11-3 record.

"I studied film at SBCC and would love to incorporate that into my studies in North Carolina as much as I can," Larson said. "I've always dreamed of playing professional ball, yet when I can no longer play, I would love to have a profession in the game. Whether it be coaching or working with film for ESPN, I just want to be a part of the game."
