Jimmy Friery Hired as Vaqueros’ Sports Information Specialist
Jimmy Friery has been hired as the first full-time Santa Barbara City College Sports Information Specialist beginning in May 2026.
Friery's involvement in the Athletics department began in 2023, though, first as a statistician and public address announcer for the Baseball and Softball programs before being hired as the part-time Sports Information Specialist at the start of the 2023-24 school year.
Outside of SBCC, Friery has a wide range of experience working in Santa Barbara athletics. He has assisted the Westmont Athletics department during the 2025-26 school year and had a full-time stint for his alma mater, UC Santa Barbara, the year prior. In 2021, Friery coached the Santa Barbara High School Frosh Baseball team to a Channel League championship. He also spent three summers as an intern with the Santa Barbara Foresters.
During college, Friery was a student broadcaster for KCSB Sports Radio. In addition, one of his first jobs was as a youth sports referee for the City's Parks and Recreation department.
Prior to this role, Friery amassed nearly six years of experience working for two local non-profits—the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History and Santa Barbara Botanic Garden—most notably as a membership manager.
Friery, a graduate of Moorpark High School, earned his bachelor's degree in History from UC Santa Barbara in 2020 and his master's in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2026.
