Physical Education Building Replacement Project Underway

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Santa Barbara City College is currently undergoing the Physical Education Building Replacement Project, which is located directly west of La Playa Stadium.
The previous building, built in the 1960s, has been a positive space for SBCC student-athletes for over 50 years. Naturally, one of the forgivable detriments of being so close to the Pacific Ocean is that facilities become weathered quicker than they would if located inland. Such necessary improvements emphasize the importance of community support, of which the school and Athletics department are extremely appreciative.
"We are beyond grateful to the community for their support of Measure P!" said Director of Athletics LaDeane Hansten. "The impact that the improved facility will have on the physical, social, and emotional health of our community, students, and staff will be immeasurable."
Measure P's passing, along with a $34 million match in state funds, "enables SBCC to move forward with one of the most transformative construction projects in its history," as described by the college's official release.

During construction, Vaquero indoor events--such as basketball and volleyball--will take place at four-year neighbor UC Santa Barbara's Robertson Gymnasium.
