SBCC sophomore Sandy Grimaldo was selected WSC North Player of the Year for women's soccer and John Sisterson was named Coach of the Year.
Grimaldo had a hat trick in last Tuesday's 3-0 win over Ventura that clinched the second WSC title in four years for the Vaqueros (14-3-4, 9-0-3). The 5-5 forward from Mammoth Lakes has nine goals and seven assists for 25 points.
The Vaqueros have had the WSC North Player of the Year in three of the last four seasons. Jessicca Dominechelli won the award in 2011 and Brandie Harris was the MVP last year.
Sisterson won his second women's Coach of the Year honor after helping the Vaqueros become the first SBCC women's soccer team to go undefeated in conference play. In 2011, he was named WSC men's and women's Coach of the Year. In eight years with the women, Sisterson is 128-44-37 overall and 75-18-19 (.754) in WSC play.
Kaitlyn Crooker, the No. 2 scorer in the WSC with 18 goals and five assists, was a first-team all-conference choice, along with midfielders Hannah Martin and Alex Abbott, defender Chiara Kehl and goalie Karin Nordin (7 shutouts).
Martin leads the team in assists with nine and scored both goals in a 2-0 upset of previously unbeaten San Bernardino Valley last Friday at home.
Second-team picks were Lena Gustafsson, Madison Shaw, Emily Erwin and Jackie Hollmer. Astrid Thiel and Laura Romero were honorable mention.
