Emma Esparza and Jacque Ortegon recorded their most dominating victory in the opening round of the WSC Women’s Beach Volleyball Pairs Tournament on Wednesday at the Ventura Marina, then advanced to the quarterfinals without a single serve or spike.
Madie Meyer and Michelle Orgell staged a stirring comeback from 14-10 down to win the third set on Friday at East Beach and help SBCC record its first home win by a 5-0 score over Victor Valley. It was also the first-ever shutout for the Vaqueros’ first-year beach volleyball squad.
SBCC got its first two points in intercollegiate women’s beach volleyball on Friday and gave an outstanding effort before falling 3-2 at Santa Monica. In their second match of the morning, the Vaqueros lost to Palomar, 5-0.
Beginning this spring semester, Santa Barbara City College will be the first college in Santa Barbara to offer beach volleyball as an official intercollegiate sport, with the establishment of a women's beach volleyball team.
